Team Brave is a unique community reintegration program for patients at Shriners Children's Boston. The program uses weekly outings to help patients develop the physical and emotional skills to cope with their injuries outside the hospital setting. Before every activity, Team Brave members set a goal for themselves so that they can feel successful at the end of the event. Team Brave is funded by the Boston Firefighters Burn Foundation and firefighters volunteer to attend each activity. In the first year, nearly 100 patients took part in Team Brave activities, including kayaking, rock climbing, mini golf and ice skating. Team Brave’s motto is “Engage. Encourage. Empower.”
