Shriners Children’s Texas recently hosted a dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the completion of its new patient housing facility and parking garage. This event marked the conclusion of major renovations, and a facility expansion aimed at enhancing the hospital’s capacity to serve more patients, following the consolidation of two Shriners Children’s facilities in Texas to the location on Galveston Island.

The new state-of-the-art 40-unit housing facility will provide comfortable refuge and community for families during their children’s recovery and extended hospital stay. The adjacent parking garage will offer increased accessibility and convenience to families for both outpatient and surgical visits, with ample space for patients, families and employees.

Imperial Sir Richard Burke, head of the Shriners International fraternity, along with Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Shriners Children’s, Dr. Leslie Stewart, were in attendance, along with several past and present Patient Ambassadors, including singer, author and patient alumna Kechi, and current International Patient Ambassador Paige.

“Today we begin a new chapter of providing hope and healing to the children and families who depend on our Texas hospital for the extended care they often need to move forward after experiencing such life-changing injuries,” said Imperial Sir Richard Burke, Imperial Potentate of Shriners International.

The ceremony represented the culmination of years of planning and construction, reinforcing Shriners Children’s mission to provide the highest quality care for children in Texas and beyond.

“This facility represents comfort, support and community,” said Mary Glendening, hospital administrator. “For families traveling from across the country and around the world to receive Shriners’ specialized care, this housing offers a sanctuary – a place where, amid the stresses of medical treatment, they can find rest.”

A ribbon-cutting with the Galveston Regional Chamber of Commerce concluded the event, followed by a reception and tours of the new housing facility.
