Shriners Hospitals for Children Expands to Doylestown Area
Specialized Pediatric Orthopaedic Care for Kids and Teens
Shriners Hospitals for Children — Philadelphia brings specialized pediatric orthopaedic care closer to the doorsteps of children and teens in upper Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Shriners Children’s, located in the Pavilion at Doylestown Health, will officially began having office hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This office space is the first opportunity for children and teens to be evaluated and treated outside of the hospital in the 94-year history of the Philadelphia Shriners Hospital.
“We believe this clinic will ease and improve access to our services for families outside of the city and the surrounding region. This facility is special because it is the first in the system to operate two days a week outside of our four walls for both new and existing patients,” said Krista Miller, MSN, RN, CRRN, director of patient care services, nurse executive.
The goal of the Pavilion office, located approximately one hour from the Philadelphia Shriners Hospital location, is to create a continuum of care that best serves the needs of patients and families living near Doylestown Health. Philadelphia Shriners Hospital physicians will see patients, along with Susan Griffith, D.O., pediatric orthopaedist with Bucks County Orthopedic Specialists, who has also joined our staff.
“We are excited to become part of the community in Bucks County and also look forward to seeing patients from the surrounding area,” said Scott Kozin, M.D., chief of staff, Philadelphia Shriners Hospital. “Shriners Hospitals for Children has always offered high-quality care for orthopaedic conditions, such as broken bones, scoliosis, sports injuries and more. We are looking forward to serving many more families, thanks to this secondary location.”
Patients from the Doylestown area who may be best served by the full hospital experience may need to drive to the Philadelphia location for certain services. The hospital offers certain specialized services, such as a motion analysis center that studies the motion of the body using special markers, or the onsite orthotics and prosthetics department, which fabricates scoliosis braces and prosthetic limbs.
