Research, Expertise & Innovation
Since opening our first facility in Shreveport, Louisiana, in 1922, we've been focused on improving pediatric care and the quality of life for children. What began as a single hospital is now a world-renowned and beloved healthcare system with locations in three countries and outreach programs to reach more children in more places. Our commitment to improving the lives of children around the world remains evident across our healthcare system.
While our researchers make major breakthroughs in the connection between genetics and treatment, our nursing staff transforms patient care. Together they are improving the personalized care we deliver, in ways that include:
- Using a child's genetics and lifestyle to customize their treatment to better meet their specific needs and abilities
- Incorporating technology and processes (including Interprofessional Collaborative Practice(IPCP)) into our clinical staff's daily operations to enhance teamwork and collaboration across the Shriners Children's healthcare system
- Moving to electronic health records to store and access patient information, improve the security of patient information and provide parents simplified access to their child's treatment plan
These are in addition to the many academic, industry and professional partnerships we have with innovative institutions across the country, which drive improvement throughout our research and clinical practice.
