Zappos Adaptive Donates Hundreds of Shoes to Patients of Shriners Hospitals

This month, Zappos Adaptive donated hundreds of pairs of adaptive children’s shoes from the Arthur™ PBS Collection to 17 Shriners Hospitals for Children locations across the country.

Each generous donation included a pallet of 285 shoes in various designs and styles in response to Shriners Hospitals’ clinical need for adaptive footwear solutions for many of our patients.

These shoes were specially designed for children of all abilities and include Arthur’s image printed on BILLY Footwear’s popular, high-top and low-top shoes. Each shoe features an elongated zipper allowing the top part of the shoe to open like a book so the wearer can slip it on and off with ease.

The donation from Zappos Adaptive provides patients and families stylish shoe options that fit their child’s leg and foot orthoses. The Zappos Adaptive mission is to provide functional and fashionable products to make life easier for people with disabilities who often struggle to find shoe options that fit.

“The design of these sneakers is not only fun, but it also provides a functional solution to make getting dressed easier,” said Dana Zumbo, business development manager for Zappos Adaptive “The shoes are a great step in the direction of fashion inclusivity for all.”

The donation of adaptive shoes is a catalyst for empowering pediatric patients as they work to improve their mobility, comfort and confidence.

“This donation from Zappos Adaptive is fabulous,” said Joanne Kanas, corporate director of orthotics and prosthetics for Shriners Hospitals for Children. “So many of our patients and families struggle to find stylish shoes that fit with their child’s leg and foot orthoses. With this donation, these families may be better able to find the right shoe for them.

“Shriners Hospitals for Children, through our Pediatric Orthotic and Prosthetic Services (POPS) team, can then assist by fitting the patient with the selected shoe while they are in our facility. This will allow our POPS staff to see not only how the patient’s braces are fitting, but, when appropriate, how they are working in conjunction with the footwear selected. This is made easier by being able to watch the patient walk in their brand new, well-fitting shoes. We know the patients and parents will be thrilled.”

Shriners Hospitals for Children is grateful to Zappos Adaptive for their generous gift, and their support of our mission to provide specialty care to kids, regardless of the families’ ability to pay.
