Shriners Childrens Spokane Nurse Receives 2021 DAISY Award
Congratulations to Kelly Dallmann, RN, for being awarded the 2021 Shriners Children's Spokane DAISY Award® for nursing excellence.
“I feel very grateful and honored to have been nominated among so many amazing nurses,” said Dallmann. “I try my hardest to not only be a patient advocate but an acting member of a true team working together for the best outcomes for our patients.”
Dallmann is an outstanding care manager who works closely with patients and families and three surgeons. She is the point of contact for their patients, provides education and support for diagnoses, prepares families for surgery, visits them during their stay and follows them after. She also does the legwork for getting records and surgical clearances for complex patient cases, presents cases at the multidisciplinary continuum of care meetings weekly, is responsible for the utilization management of her surgical patients, and other tasks assigned to care management.
“She stepped into a very complicated role at a very complicated time and has done exceptionally well,” said manager Angie LaBreck.
The DAISY Foundation was established in 2000 and recognizes extraordinary nurses who make an enormous difference in the lives of their patients through the superhuman work they do every day. Nurses are nominated by their peers, coworkers, or by patients and families they interact with.
“She [Kelly] specifically stands out as a DAISY nurse because of her work with one of our long-term patients who has been with us this year. She is compassionate, a creative problem solver and maintains her professionalism in difficult circumstances,” said LaBreck.
Dallmann took on this full-time role a little more than a year ago. Prior to that, she worked as a PRN and in the inpatient unit at Shriners Children's. She says part of her success is being open to learning.
“I learn something new every day,” said Dallmann. “Don’t be afraid to ask questions, even the hard ones. And last, but certainly not least, be open to change. As we all know 2020 and 2021 have been nothing but changes and rolling with the punches.”
The person who anonymously nominated Kelly had this to say about her work, “She has been a joy to work with even on the toughest of cases and most challenging situations. Kelly has worked tirelessly and poured her maternal energy into her patients. Kelly has devoted numerous hours to ensure that her patients are receiving the very best we can offer.
She adds, “I don’t think anyone who works with her would have anything but the best to say about her. She’s not only a wonderful representation of a DAISY Nurse but also an embodiment of what a Shriners Children's Spokane employee should be.”
Shriners Children's Spokane is proud to be a DAISY Award hospital partner, annually recognizing one of our nurses with this special honor.
