Shriners Children’s Texas Welcomes New Orthopedic Surgeon, John Ferris, D.O.
John Ferris, D.O., was born in Ohio and grew up in Michigan. He received his undergraduate degree from Albion College in Michigan and completed medical school at Wayne State University and Western University of Health Sciences. He went on to complete his orthopedic surgical residency at Mount Clemens General Hospital and a pediatric orthopedic surgery fellowship at Louisiana State University Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Ferris’s passion for treating patients with orthopedic conditions began in his childhood. Born with a foot condition, Ferris spent the first six weeks of his life in a cast. During his pediatric orthopedic surgery fellowship, he was able to connect with patients and families who were going through similar experiences and realized the importance of helping children with orthopedic conditions.
Ferris started with Shriners Children's in September, as part of a career that has taken him all over the United States, including California, Louisiana, Michigan and Arkansas. He is most passionate about treating patients with scoliosis and clubfoot conditions and looks forward to helping treat children who need help the most.
He also understands that many parents may be concerned or stressed out about their child’s quality of life due to their condition, and he hopes to help them see that with treatment, and possibly surgery, their children can still succeed in life, just like any other child.
Dr. Ferris is married and has both a son and a daughter. Outside of work, he enjoys hiking, woodworking, scuba diving and traveling. He is a member of the American Osteopathic Association, the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics and the Pediatric Orthopedic Society of North America.
