Being part of the nursing team at Shriners Children’s means possessing a set of qualities that make us exceptional caregivers and crucial players in the recovery process of our patients. We share a deep sense of service and empathy, without leaving behind equity and our natural kindness.

Being helpful is an essential part of my job. It's not just about administering medications or performing medical procedures, but ensuring that my patients feel comfortable and cared for. One of the ways I strive to be helpful is by dedicating time to listen to my patients and their families. By doing so, I can better understand their needs and concerns, and address them in a compassionate and effective manner. Whether it's explaining a procedure or simply offering words of comfort, I believe that knowing how to listen is essential to being a nurse.

Cultivating equity is indispensable to me because it not only promotes equality, but also fosters trust. Patients feel comfortable and secure knowing that I provide them with fair treatment, ensuring that all children receive the same level of care and attention, regardless of their background or situation.

Lastly, while I follow strict protocols and guidelines to ensure that patients are protected from harm, kindness is exceptional. I believe that a little kindness can go a long way in brightening someone's day, whether it's with a smile, a gentle touch, or simply dedicating time to listen. I strive to ensure that my patients feel seen, heard and attended to.

It's not always easy, especially when it comes to children, but I know that my kindness can make a difference in their lives. And that's what being a Shriners Children’s nurse is all about – having a positive impact on the lives of our patients.

In conclusion, these are some examples of the many qualities that make us invaluable. I strive to positively influence the lives of my patients, which is not an easy task, but it is incredibly rewarding to know that I can make a difference in their lives.
