Dr. Katherine Au is a double board-certified hand and plastic surgeon at Shriners Children's Southern California. She was born and raised in San Francisco where she attended Lowell High School and then graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in molecular and cellular biology. From there, she earned her medical degree at Penn State University and elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. She continued at Penn State and completed her residency in plastic surgery. There, she was awarded the Department of Surgery Resident Professionalism/Humanism Award and the Steven H. Miller Outstanding Plastic Surgery Teaching Award. She moved back to California to compete her fellowship in hand and microsurgery at UCLA.
Dr. Au's passion for teaching and mentorship has continued. She is a clinical assistant professor of plastic surgery at USC and a clinical assistant professor of orthopedics at UCLA. She is a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand Resident Education Committee and a member of the USC plastic surgery professionalism committee.
Dr. Au specializes in congenital and traumatic pediatric hand reconstruction, burn reconstruction and microsurgery. She also has an interest in non-surgical scar treatment.
She is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, the American Association for Hand Surgery and the Pediatric Hand Study Group.
Dr. Au has three brothers and is the mother of two boys. She knows what it is like to be in a busy household. She loves being a full-time surgeon, educator and mother. In her limited free time she likes to exercise, read and spend time with her family.
