From the time she was very young, Susan Griffith, D.O., had always wanted to be a doctor. She played multiple sports growing up and college soccer, but that wasn't her driving force into specializing in orthopedics. Dr. Griffith's dad, who is a Shriner, thought it would be character building for her to work as a machinist in the company where he was a mechanical engineer. Dr. Griffith and her brother really enjoyed their time working with their fellow machinists and creating parts for many different devices. Dr. Griffith's brother became an oral maxillofacial surgeon and she became an orthopedic surgeon. They both adapted their experiences as machinists and applied it to helping people with their injuries and conditions.

Dr. Griffith spent six months in her residency at Dupont Hospital for Children in Wilmington Delaware. From day one, she thoroughly enjoyed working with the patients and staff. It is very gratifying treating children of all different ages and orthopedic needs. When it came time for fellowship, her dad asked if she had inquired about any opportunities at Shriners Children's Philadelphia. Dr. Griffith called Randall Betz, M.D., former Chief of Staff Shriners Children's Philadelphia, and the rest is history. She graduated from a combined fellowship with Saint Christopher's Hospital and Shriners Children's in 2004. Dr. Griffith went into private practice in her hometown, Doylestown, Pennsylvania, where she treats children and adults for their general and pediatric orthopedic concerns.

Dr. Griffith is a mother of three with a very supportive and understanding husband. Although their schedules are busy, her family still continues to enjoy sporting activities. In the past, they were heavily involved in soccer, basketball, lacrosse and swimming. Dr. Griffith has participated in 13 marathons, including 4 Boston marathons, and many triathlons. And, she still does a lot of local races. Now, she also plays tennis and golf.

Dr. Griffith believes as a physician, it is important to have an understanding of mind and body of the patient in order to get them on the proper road to recovery. She encourages people to achieve their goals with a stepwise approach after a thorough evaluation.
