Jonathan Winograd, M.D. began his interest in reconstructive surgery while a medical student at Harvard during an elective month in plastic surgery at the Beth Israel Hospital with Dr. Robert Goldwyn, a national leader in plastic and reconstructive surgery. He decided to do a residency in general and plastic surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital based on that experience. There, he further developed an interest in complex microsurgical reconstruction, particularly focused on hands and peripheral nerves. After residency, which he completed in 2000, Dr. Winograd went on to do a hand and microsurgical fellowship with Dr. Susan MacKinnon, a world expert in peripheral nerve reconstruction, at Barnes Jewish Children's Hospital in St. Louis. He returned to Boston to work at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Shriners Children's Boston in 2001. Since that time, he has built a practice treating many different types of patients requiring complex reconstructive procedures, with a particular focus on microsurgical reconstruction, hand reconstruction and peripheral nerve reconstruction. At Shriners Childrens, he takes care of children with complex reconstructive problems of the hand and peripheral nerves, including congenital differences, post traumatic reconstructive problems and burn reconstructive surgery.
