Patient Programs

Our Care Extends Beyond Our Walls

At Shriners Children's Spokane, our team is committed to caring for the overall health and well-being of our patients. This includes their minds as well as their bodies. In that spirit, we offer a wide variety of programs and camps.

Our extensive patient programs give children the opportunity to participate in enjoyable activities to brighten their stay and in camps that can help them return to their communities more active and confident.

Shriners Children's partners with a number of community organizations to provide opportunities for children to explore and grow their overall potential inside and outside of the hospital. Your nurse or care coordinator can direct you to opportunities in the community.

Patient Ambassador Program

Your willingness to share your Shriners Children’s Spokane story is a powerful way to make a difference. As a Patient Ambassador, you will share your Shriners Children’s Spokane story and how our healthcare system has made a difference in your life. You will represent Shriners Children’s Spokane, connect with fellow patients, and play a vital role in advancing our healthcare system's mission. But most importantly, have fun!

Examples of potential events may include, but are not limited to, public speaking opportunities, attending hospital or fundraising events, sharing your story at Shriners International chapter meetings, participating in video and photo shoots, and more!

If you would like to register or want more information about the program, reach out to Jennifer York, marketing and communications coordinator by email at Jennifer.York@shrinenet.org or by phone at 509-623-0403.

Teen Group

Teen group is for local teens between the ages 14–18 who are patients of Shriners Children's and are in eighth grade or high school. Participants get together to build relationships, learn new skills, and participate in fun activities. Parents also have the opportunity to meet and learn from each other and help their children be more independent following high school. For more information, please give us a call.

On-site Public School

Learning never stops. For those children who anticipate missing at least four weeks of school during the school year, an education plan can be made available. Feel free to discuss any academic concerns you have regarding your child with your care coordinator, the nursing staff or a member of the recreational therapy department.

Therapeutic Recreation and Child Life

Shriners Children’s Spokane is committed to enhancing the healthcare experience for our patients and their families through dedicated child lifspecialists and recreational therapists.

Child life specialists ensure a positive and supportive environment during hospital stays and clinic visits. As integral members of the healthcare team, they collaborate directly with each child to alleviate anxiety and stress associated with medical procedures or hospitalization.

Our recreational therapy program is designed to channel our patients' energies toward activities that bring them joy. Tailored to meet the unique needs of each child, these activities promote active and healthy lifestyles. Identifying the child's passions is the first step, allowing our team of recreational therapists to customize treatment plans that encourage independent participation in these activities.

Leveraging their knowledge, training, and understanding of child development, our teams utilize creative and play-based approaches to help children feel more comfortable, calm, and confident during their time at Shriners Children’s Spokane for visits, procedures and hospital stays.

Pet Therapy

Ginny, the Shriners Children’s Spokane facility dog, is an essential member of the hospital’s care team. Ginny provides love and companionship to patients and families at the hospital.

Ginny's mission at Shriners Children's Spokane is to shower patients and their families with love and companionship. Whether in inpatient or outpatient settings, rehabilitation, or recreational therapy appointments, Ginny's impact is undeniable, providing emotional support, boosting motivation, and enhancing motor skills.
