Walk for LOVE 2020 Goes Virtual
The 2020 Shriners Hospitals for Children — Salt Lake City Walk for LOVE™ will be virtual! The Salt Lake City Walk for LOVE, approaching its sixth year, has become an annual tradition for many patients, their families and supporters.
In the current climate, where the safety of our patients and the public is always on their mind, the staff at the Salt Lake City hospital knew this year had to be different. “Every year we hear from patient families and our supporters who live far away that they wish they could join us for the Walk,” said Kristen L. Carroll, M.D., chief of staff. “Well, this year they can!”
Participants are invited to register, identify a 1.5-mile route in their community, and Walk for LOVE between September 12 – 19. This is a great way to show your support of the hospital, a patient and their family. Registration includes a commemorative T-shirt, medals for children age 18 and younger, and a “walking kit” full of special swag to help promote your walk.
While participants are invited to walk on a date and time that is convenient for them, the hospital will be going live on Facebook on Saturday, September 19, featuring hospital staff, patient families, Shriners and others from their walking locations. We will also announce top fundraisers, called Champions for LOVE, during the live stream.
Once registered, participants are invited to post on social media a photo or short video answering the question, “Why I Walk,” using the hashtag, #WFLSLC2020. Though walkers may be far apart this year, the hope is that following that hashtag will allow participants to feel united with other walkers, regardless of how many miles may be between.
As in previous years, patient registration is free. Simply contact Tyree Bee to register. Get an exclusive discount for families of three or more. Instructions on how to redeem this discount are on the registration page. T-shirts and walking kits will be mailed to participants, or may be picked up the week before the Walk at the hospital. Contact Nancy Wiscomb with questions about walking kit pick-up.
Consider downloading the official 2020 Registration and Fundraising Toolkit, which contains registration instructions, fundraising tips and additional information about the Walk for LOVE. The toolkit can be found on the registration page.
By walking or rolling at Walk for LOVE, you can do your part to send Love to the rescue®.
