Shriners Hospitals for Children Hosts a Blood Drive for the Red Cross
One side effect of the COVID-19 pandemic has been a dramatic reduction in the nation’s blood supply. Available blood supply is crucial for medical care, including operations that are performed regularly at Shriners Hospitals for Children — Philadelphia.
Our hospital was set to host a blood drive in April, but due to so many unknowns and limited staff, we postponed our spring drive. Since our workforce is back in the building and serving more patients, we felt it was time to add a blood drive back to our schedule. On Tuesday, August 18, our hospital hosted an employee blood drive. We collected over 25 pints of blood for the American Red Cross during the drive.
The blood drive took place on the ninth floor in the pre-function area, with social distancing precautions in place. Healthy employees were invited to schedule a donation time online and donate blood. Over 25 employees participated during the hospital blood drive.
The staff was happy to have a safe, convenient location to donate blood and help with the current blood shortage numbers.
