Yoga Benefits the Body and Mind

Young Patients Show Off Their Superhero Yoga Poses

The coronavirus pandemic has transformed summer for many kids and families. Many things including summer camps, sports leagues, group outings and activities have been postponed or canceled. Families have needed to get creative to find new ways to stay active and reduce their stress levels this summer.

Yoga is a great option for exercising the mind and body. It can involve anything from simple seated stretches to complex poses that require lots of flexibility and strength. According to the Harvard Health Blog, yoga is great for kids, benefiting their physical and mental health. It can help with balance, strength, endurance, focus, memory, self-esteem, academic performance and classroom behavior. It can even reduce anxiety and stress in children.

At Shriners Hospitals for Children — Northern California, we are always looking for creative ways to engage our young patients’ bodies and minds. Recently, some of our patients demonstrated some fun superhero yoga poses that anyone can try.
