Hospital Employees Recognized as Great Catch All Stars

During a socially distanced ceremony, 10 Shriners Hospitals for Children — Northern California employees were recognized as Great Catch All Stars by their colleagues and the Quality & Patient Safety Department. Every month, the hospital-wide Patient Safety Workgroup selects a staff member who made a “Great Catch” by proactively identifying a process, procedure or situation that improved patient safety.

The Great Catch Award signifies the ability to demonstrate attention to detail, keen skills and dedication to patient safety. The Great Catch All Stars lineup represents all Great Catch Award recipients for the 2019-2020 season, which began in November 2019 and ended in September 2020. A baseball-themed trophy is rotated amongst the winners’ department for one month, until the next recipient is selected by the committee. Each Great Catch Award recipient receives a signed baseball from hospital leadership in recognition of their contribution to keeping patients safe and healthy.

“The health and safety of our patients is our No. 1 priority at Shriners Hospitals for Children — Northern California,” said Allan (AJ) Johnson, director of clinical services. “Our Great Catch award recipients are exemplary employees and examples of how we strive to ensure safety in everything we do while providing the highest level of patient care and professionalism.”

Quality, safety and successful patient outcomes are an integral part of the outstanding care patients receive here. These efforts are facilitated and managed by the quality department, a dedicated team of highly-trained specialists who constantly work to improve care with medical staff members and directors.

The quality department’s exceptional work and collaboration with medical staff was most recently demonstrated by the 2020 Press Ganey Pinnacle of Excellence Award® for Patient Experience and the 2020 Press Ganey Guardian of Excellence Award® for Patient Experience. Press Ganey is a leader in health care performance improvement and measurement. The awards are evidence of the hospital’s top-performing and consistent patient-centric care and services.

Congratulations to all of the Northern California Shriners Hospital Great Catch All Stars! The Great Catch All Stars are role models here, and every day their actions demonstrate their commitment to excellent patient safety.
