What’s New at the Salt Lake City Shriners Hospital?

You may have heard the news that some changes are on the horizon at Shriners Hospitals for Children in Salt Lake City. We are expanding our long-standing relationship with Intermountain Primary Children’s Hospital.

Patients will continue to receive outpatient clinical care at the Salt Lake City Shriners Hospital. Beginning September 1, patients will receive surgical and inpatient services at nearby Primary Children’s Hospital.

The physicians who have treated patients at Shriners Hospital will still perform the patients’ surgeries at Primary Children’s Hospital. All other services will remain on-site at Shriners Hospital such as: physician clinics including our multi-specialty clinics, POPS (Pediatric Orthotic and Prosthetic Services – West, LLC); motion analysis center, rehabilitation services including therapy services and wheelchair, seating and mobility; radiology, research, community outreach and care management.

This collaborative care model will give surgical patients ready access to pediatric specialists, laboratory services, respiratory therapists, pediatric intensive care and emergency services at Primary Children’s Hospital – and allows the Salt Lake City Shriners Hospital to expand and enhance its specialty services to serve more children.

Patients will also continue to have access to financial assistance through Shriners Hospitals for Children — Salt Lake City and Intermountain Healthcare. Shriners Hospital patients who come through the outpatient clinic can expect the same level of financial assistance as in the past for their surgeries performed by a Shriners Hospital surgeon at Primary Children’s Hospital.

This transition is a continuation of a collaborative care model that has been in place for many years for patients who receive specialized care to optimize outcomes.

What has not changed, and will not change, is our commitment to patients. Our mission remains to provide the most amazing pediatric orthopedic care to more children in more places, all regardless of the family’s ability to pay.

Shriners Hospitals for Children — Salt Lake City has been providing specialized pediatric orthopedic care to children in our region for nearly 100 years. As healthcare continues to evolve, we are positioning ourselves to provide healthcare to children for the next 100 years.

Shriners Hospitals for Children — Salt Lake City and Intermountain Primary Children’s Hospital are jointly recognized in U.S. News & World Report’s Best Children’s Hospitals rankings in orthopedics.
