Our Nurses are at the Heart of Our Care
Our nurses are at the heart of providing amazing care to patients from around the Midwest and Stephanie Soto, RN, has worked in three different nursing roles at the Chicago hospital in the past 15 years.
Soto began her career as a nursing assistant on the inpatient unit. In 2009, Soto, who advanced her career by obtaining registered nurse credentials, began working as an RN on the same unit.
“I have worked in different departments and had different titles,” Soto said. “As a nursing assistant I worked alongside an RN and obtained vital signs, charted I & O's (tracking fluids that enter the body and fluids that leave) and performed showers. As a nurse in the inpatient unit, I administered medicines, and cared for post-operative patients and rehabilitation patients.”
Soto is so committed to the Shriners Children’s mission that she returned to work at the Chicago hospital in 2011 after a brief two-year stop in the sunshine state of Florida. She returned as an RNII in the outpatient department, where families notice her enthusiasm and special attention toward each child. In 2016, she was honored with the DAISYChicago Staff Reflection Award for nursing. “It’s easy to provide the best patient care and want to make a child’s life better. We aim to treat the child regardless of insurance status and ability to pay. We just want to help the child and who doesn’t love that?”
