Jennifer, Framing Personal and Professional Success

Diagnosed with arthrogryposis multiplex congenita, congenital hip dislocation and clubfoot, in her first days of life Jennifer received treatment at a hospital where she spent days using braces attached to her ankles to correct her condition.

Fortunately, a doctor recommended she visit Shriners Hospital for Children Mexico, and from that day onwards, her life changed.

Comprehensive care through psychological, medical, nutritional and surgical consultations instilled in her and her family that there are no limits in life. “We would not have been able to pay all the costs of my treatment. I will never forget the care of my doctors, nurses, social workers, dietitians, therapists, radiologists and surgeons.”

Jennifer remembers how the Three Wise Men came and gave her toys on January 6. She also remembers the great support they gave her to be able to go through her surgeries. She shares with us that the hospital made her feel like a loved child. But not only did she have a successful treatment, but she also made many friends with whom she had contact for more than 20 years.

You planted in me, very early in life, the tenacity with which I grew throughout my life.

“I remember living with my friends, some of whom were amputees, burned, and in wheelchairs. I think for those of us who grew up in this beautiful environment, the hospital made us feel that in life you may not get everything you want, but you can be happy with what you have,” said Jennifer.

Currently, Jennifer is a Ph.D. medical research student at the IPN (National Polytechnic Institute) in the field of molecular biology. She has obtained various incentives and recognitions for her perseverance and tenacity. She also received a scholarship to study in China, where she had the opportunity to climb The Great Wall.

Jennifer also collaborates in research projects at the IPN and the UNAM (Autonomous University of Mexico), where her intention is to be able to contribute to the investigation of rare diseases. She also provides consultation to patients, most of them with chronic-degenerative diseases with neuromuscular sequelae.

She helps them to rehabilitate, because she understands the feelings of her patients very well, making the bond she has with them one of a kind.

“Even though I have a disability, and even though I have a total hip replacement that was done nine years ago, I am a full and happy person. And I owe it all to you,” Jennifer concluded.
