Speaker 1:
The prone position is performed to minimize tightness in the front of the hip and the back of the knee, as well as to alleviate pressure over the buttocks from prolonged sitting. Have your child roll from back to stomach while gently lifting the frame and following along. Once your child is on his stomach, gently lower the leg and position in alignment with his body. A pillow may be used under the knee to improve comfort. Some children prefer an additional pillow under the frame as well. This is fine as long as the knee is relatively straight. Make sure the hips are level and the leg is not rolled outward. This position should be maintained for 15 to 20 minutes, one to two times daily. Your child's PT will provide individualized instructions.
