Speaker 1:

It is important to keep the knee as straight as possible when resting in bed or sitting for long periods of time. This will help prevent excessive tightening behind the knee. Pillows and towel rolls are helpful in achieving the best position. Begin by placing pillows or folded towels under the lower rings of the frame, until the knee is straight and the lower leg is in line with the thigh. A small towel roll may be tucked along the outside of the frame, parallel with the lower leg, should the knee have a tendency to roll outward.

These guidelines should be followed in bed, while in a wheelchair, and while in school with the leg propped on a second chair. Keeping the leg elevated while sitting for long periods of time is very helpful in reducing swelling as well.
