R. Lor Randall, M.D., FACS, is an internationally recognized sarcoma surgeon, educator, researcher and the chair of the department of Orthopedic Surgery at UC Davis. He holds the David Linn Endowed Chair in orthopedic surgery.
As chair, he leads more than 70 surgeons, physicians, researchers and trainees who provide a full spectrum of specialty care for adults and children with musculoskeletal conditions. The department is nationally ranked with an international reputation for excellence in clinical care and innovation, partnering with UCDA's world renowned veterinary medicine, biomedical engineering and other programs.
Dr. Randall's clinical practice and research focus on musculoskeletal surgical oncology and on building leading-edge, transdisciplinary teams to combat rare cancers of connective tissue in children and adults. His translational research efforts have been recognized internationally. He is also responsible for the development of the Sarcoma Advanced Research and Clinical (SARC) Fellowship, one of the most sought-after clinical training experiences in the world.
Dr. Randall has authored innumerable peer-reviewed articles, book chapters and abstracts in the field of sarcoma surgery and biology. He has received numerous national and international awards and has helped develop Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer Care Programs at Utah and UC Davis.
He has served as president of the Connective Tissue Oncology Society, Musculoskeletal Tumor Society, the Association of Bone and Joint Surgeons and leads the local Control Subcommittee of the Bone Committee for the Children's Oncology Group.
Dr. Randall received his medical degree from Yale University School of Medicine. He completed an orthopedic surgery residency at the University of California, San Francisco and a fellowship in musculoskeletal oncology at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, University of Washington. After spending 20 wonderful years in Utah, he is excited about the new chapter in beautiful Northern California.
