Neil Saran, M.D., FRCS(c), completed his undergraduate medical education at the University of British Columbia after which he went to McGill University for his orthopedic surgery residency training. Following this, he completed two fellowships. His first was in pediatric orthopedics and scoliosis surgery at the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in Dallas, Texas and his second was in pediatric orthopedic surgery (spine focus) at the University of British Columbia. He also completed a Masters of Health Sciences (Clinical Epidemiology) at the University of British Columbia.

His clinical practice is focused on two areas in pediatric orthopedic surgery: spine and adolescent hip. He has a busy spine practice that covers the full spectrum of pediatric spinal disorders. He has a strong interest in growth modulation of the spine by anterior vertebral body tethering for the treatment of scoliosis in growing patients.

His adolescent hip clinic at Shriners Children's is a combined clinic with Dr. Thierry Pauyo who is also a pediatric orthopedic surgeon, trained in hip arthroscopic techniques. Together, through various techniques including the Ganz osteotomy, Chiari osteotomy, femoral osteotomies, hip arthroscopy and surgical hip dislocation they, they team up to find the best solutions to treat residual deformities in healed slipped capital femoral epiphysis and Perthes, as well as all forms of acetabular dysplasia to help adolescents with hip pain and to delay the onset of painful osteoarthritis associated with these conditions. Dr. Saran also has a young adult hip clinic that he runs at the Montreal General Hospital with an adult orthopedic surgery colleague which allows them to treat young adults with these disorders and also enables him to provide a continuum of care for patients he has followed at the Shriners Children's.
