Upcoming Changes at Shriners Children’s Florida in Tampa

As Shriners Children’s expands our vision for care in the year 2022, the future includes caring for more kids in more places.

To meet modern specialty pediatric care needs, a few of our locations have already transitioned to new models of care. That is now happening at Shriners Children’s Florida, where we have started transferring portions of care to local and state affiliates that complement our services.

Part of this future state includes the full transition of clinical services from Shriners Children’s Florida on the USF campus in Tampa, Florida. The planned transition is underway, to start April 1, 2022. Over the next several months, we will assist in facilitating the transfer of care of patients to another location that specifically meets their medical needs. Families are provided several options for pediatric orthopedic care within the Shriners Children’s organization. They may contact their child’s care coordinator at the Tampa location for assistance.

By working with affiliate providers, our established and future patients will continue to receive high-quality specialty care in new locations that can provide pediatric orthopedic services and more. There is a Shriners affiliate clinic at the University of Florida in Gainesville.

For our patients receiving orthotic and prosthetic care, Pediatric Orthotics and Prosthetics Services (POPS), an LLC of Shriners Hospitals for Children, has been working diligently on options for POPS-Tampa to have a presence locally. Current POPS staff will continue to provide ongoing care and new devices. Our POPS patients are reminded to keep their current appointments, and to make appointments for adjustments and new devices as needed.

The Shriners Children’s healthcare system will remain headquartered in Tampa, as it has been for more than 40 years, and the Shriners Children’s Genomics Institute will continue its important work at its current location on the USF campus.
